Fran Landesman 1927-2011 lyricist, poet and performer

The  lyrics of Fran Landesman, including the great ‘Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most’, and ‘Ballad of the Sad Young Men’, are some of the most poignant and affecting of our time, with legends including Barbra Streisand, and Bette Midler having performed her work.  She was born in New York City and relocated  to London in 1964  where she worked constantly, writing and performing, for the next 47 years.

Sarah Moule’s forthcoming CD ‘Songs from the Floating World’  includes 12 songs with lyrics by Fran including 7 previously unreleased Landesman/Wallace songs. It is being launched at Pizza Express Dean Street on Tuesday 16th September.

Ian Shaw’s CD  ‘A Ghost in Every Bar’ is dedicated to Fran’s lyrics with music by Tommy Wolf,  Bob Dorough and  Simon Wallace.
